Type Approval News - Feb 2016 - Commercial Vehicle Dealers & The N1 Enhancement Scheme

Type Approval News - February 2016

How Commercial Vehicle Dealers Can Benefit From The N1 Enhancement Scheme

Companies are increasingly considering their corporate responsibilities to their employees, their customers and the public in everything that they do, including the procurement of their vehicles and the equipment fitted to them. This provides an opportunity for Commercial Vehicle Dealers to benefit from the N1 Enhancement Scheme. Under this Scheme, Dealers can supply and fit certain approved equipment before the vehicle is registered and complete internal IVA checks without completing an IVA inspection at a DVSA (formerly VOSA) IVA Test Station at minimal cost. This can increase the Dealer’s turnover and profit and provide a better service for their customers by delivering a vehicle fitted with approved equipment that can start work on the first day of registration.

The N1 Enhancement Scheme allows approved equipment to be fitted to most light commercial vehicles before registration. Popular equipment that is fitted to many vehicles are within the scope of this Scheme, including tow bars and brackets, alarms, additional lighting, parking sensors and security locks on doors.

In order to use this Scheme, Dealers need to complete the application process with the Vehicle Certification Agency (VCA), an Executive Agency of the UK Department for Transport. The application process includes documenting the equipment that can be fitted to vehicles, gain Conformity of Production (CoP) clearance and complete a vehicle inspection with the VCA. Upon successful completion of the application process, the Dealer can then submit the modifications made to vehicles by email to obtain N1 Enhancement IVA numbers from the VCA that are then attached to the AFRL application for vehicle registration. Each N1 Enhancement Scheme vehicle application to the VCA currently costs less than £2, so it is very cost effective compared to the traditional IVA route.

GTO Automotive can help Dealers through the N1 Enhancement Scheme process. We have produced the necessary application documentation and have helped companies to successfully complete the N1 Enhancement Scheme process. For information, VCA CoP Clearance does not require the costly ISO 9001 certification. GTO Automotive have produced a Quality Manual, Processes, Procedures and Control Plans that can be adapted for customers and meet the requirements for VCA CoP Clearance.

You can find more information on the N1 Enhancement Scheme under the Type Approval section. Please feel free to contact GTO Automotive to discuss how we can help you to successfully complete the N1 Enhancement Scheme quickly and cost effectively.
